My Take on it

The catch-phrase on the back of the book sums it up pretty well, “The 7 Best-Kept Secrets Of The Job Market.”

I was looking through Shawn Ann’s stack of review materials when I saw Where The Jobs Are Now. After finding out what the book was about I asked her if I could read it and do the review, I’m glad I did. Being out of work myself and looking to get into a new career this book gave me a lot of useful information, and a place to start.

The introduction lines it all out for you; unemployment rates are at a 26 year high, and the numbers are going up. Even when the economy does take a turn for the better the rate at which jobs come back will be much slower than the rate at which they have been lost. And even when the jobs do start to come back, we can’t expect the “same” jobs. Times are changing, the economy is changing, and the old rules of job hunting are changing. The manufacturing jobs (as in my case) that once were the backbone of the workforce are giving way to the new breed of employment fields. But there are a few fields, 7 in fact, that analysts have shown will be booming in the future, and getting into these fields is what us out of work people should really consider.

Where The Jobs Are Now goes into depth describing the seven work fields; Health Care, Government, Biotechnology, Green Energy, Education, Security, and Information Technology. And instead of just saying “here is a field, now go get a job in it”, the author (Joe Watson) partitions the various aspects of the field out for you. For instance, “Health Care” isn’t just for doctors or nurses. It’s a growing field that will require accountants, technicians to maintain facilities, service people, computer systems administrators, people in their legal department, and even people with bi-lingual skills (just to name a few). The author also included real-world examples/testimonials of people who gave up one career for another in one of these 7 fields with great success. I for one plan on using my earlier career in Information Technology (which I got bored of, that’s why I went into Manufacturing) to seek a new career in the stable and booming field of Health Care.

Where The Jobs Are Now is full of information, and the appendix makes a great reference for furthering your “quest for knowledge” by providing website URLs, information for student aid, job search sites, industry news, career information, etc.

Where The Jobs Are Now is a good read and doesn’t bore you to death with nothing but statistics and numbers and then telling you what you should do. Instead it gives you the information you need to make your own decisions, and then goes a bit further. I really enjoyed it, and am glad I got the chance to review it. And I’m glad my little boy was nice enough to give me some peace and quiet today in order to finish reading it.

Disclosure: I would like to thank Jocelyn at Meryl L. Moss Media Relations, Inc. for providing a copy of this book for the purpose of this review.

Sarah over at Meryl L. Moss Media Relations, Inc. has offered a giveaway of WILLOW by Julia Hoban to one of my readers.

About the Book

WILLOW is set to be released this month!

Willow by Julia HobanTrapped in a life she never expected, Willow Randall desperately wishes things would return to the way they were – but they can’t. One night, Willow’s parents drank too much and asked her to drive them home, but they never made it – Willow lost control of the car, and both of her parents were killed. Now tormented by guilt, she goes through the motions just trying to cope. Willow numbs her new, grim reality by secretly cutting herself – the only way she thinks she can gain control amidst dysfunction and chaos. Extremely unique, smart, and thoughtful, Willow not only faces the daunting task of refiguring her life without the people who mattered most, but falls in love with the first person to know everything about her. WILLOW is a testament to the need for human connection and the power of love to heal. It’s about the love of books, the love of family, and a special love that develops between two teenagers that allows our heroine to start her journey toward healing.

Category: Giveaways, Product Review

I was recently given the opportunity to review two items from the Purse Hangers USA.

About Purse Hangers

  • We are a newly small business located in Minnesota & started in 2009..
  • Our specialty is Purse Hangers and we only supply the high quality designs at a very affordable price.
  • We went through many manufacture to find the best quality hangers as you can see in the sample.
  • Our competitors are either to costly or their hangers are very cheap and not sturdy.
  • The lower the price of the hangers means the cheaper the hanger is and wont be able to hold much weight.
  • Our Foldable purse hangers with the compact mirror can easily hold over 10 lbs. ( a laptob bag with the lab top is about 10lbs. )
  • We will also be adding Key Finders to our inventory in the next couple months and possible designer handbags in the near future..
  • We have a store front located at Mall of America just for the holiday.. Will be back for 2010 Christmas season…
  • We also wholesale our hanger to small boutique. They can start selling our hangers at their store and order a minimum of 10 units & they are able to mix & match the design..
  • We also Drop-ship for those online stores that are also interested in selling our Purse hangers for a profit.
  • We ship them out for them when they get an order… They don’t have to keep an inventory.

Here are some of the designs you can chose from, you can click on the images to go to their page.

Prices range from $12.95 to $18.95 each and you can shop 24/7 with their online store.

My Take on it

Paul over at Purse Hangers USA provided me with two purse hangers for my review.  The first is the Green Apple Hook and the other is the Peridot Green Foldable Purse Hook.

They arrived in no time and they are beautiful!  They are very easy to use and small enough to fit in your purse to make it easy for you to carry around and use everywhere.

As you can see, the purse will hang under the table right at your side, so it is always within reach of you and out of site for others.  I will be carrying one in my purse at all times, only problem is deciding which to bring :teehee guess I’ll be rotating them every so often or giving one to my mom so she can enjoy the convenience of them also!

Carolina Pad Review & Giveaway

Carolina Pad

Carolina Pad has recently come out with a few new collections and I given the opportunity to receive a few items from each collection, courtesy of Carolina Pad for this review.

Who is Carolina Pad?

Let’s start out with a little history about Carolina Pad and how they started.

The Carolina Pad story begins in 1945 in Charlotte, North Carolina. That’s when Joseph K. Hall Jr. and several business associates managed to scrape up enough money and equipment to start up a school supply manufacturing company. Joe had been operating Hall & Morris, a school supply wholesale business in Belmont, North Carolina. The new company offered composition books, notebook paper, primary tablets, pencils, crayons, and other school supplies. A former teacher, principal, and coach, Joe was excited by the new company’s offerings

In 2002, Carolina Pad started a fashion revolution by introducing fashion to their products to what you now see all the kids carrying around!  Here are just a few samples of the designs you can get from Carolina Pad.

The new collections are:

  • Carnival – Make an impact with vibrant color that radiates energy and fun.
  • In the Navy – Pairs traditional design with deep blue color. But it’s the splashes of bright color and the polka dots that catch the eye.
  • Provence – Classic design and contemporary color for those who value both traditional and contemporary style.
  • Urban Mix – Rich, luscious color paired with a modern, hip vibe. Oh so cool.

These products are available exclusively at select Meijer and Fred Meyer – contact your local store for product availability.

My Take on it

As a busy mom, I’m always looking for something to write on for keeping notes of all kinds.  Life is hard just being a mom, throw in working full-time outside of the home, being an Independent Avon Sales Representative, blogger, and student (taking a break from that right now after earning my Associates in Business), your day can get pretty hectic!

Carolina Pad Carolina Pad Review Collection

Carolina Pad has something for just about everything.  You have sticky note pads, little page tabs, pens, cases, file folders, binder folders, notebooks, laptop bags, etc.  With their four new designs, it’s just that much more to love about them!  One of their new products is a mouse pad / note pad.  LOVE IT!  Nothing better than having a note pad right there next to your computer at all times.  Just jot down your note to remind you to go to the Carolina Pad website and it’s right there for  you every time you go to your computer…well, at least until you tear off that page ;)

In Memory of Kyna

Posted by: Shawn Ann on February 3, 2010 at 2:09 PM
Category: Miscellaneous

Hazel Park has lost a wonderful person.  Kyna was known to a lot of people in Hazel Park and around the area.  A 1993 graduate (my classmate) of Hazel Park High School who ended up teaching English at Hazel Park High School.

Kyna, who was pregnant with her 3rd child,  died this past Friday of a Brain Aneurysm  :( Just a couple days before her oldest son turned 7 (Monday).  Kyna is survived by her husband, John; sons Zackary, 7, & Carter, 4; parents, Ken (Lisa) Mayo and Vicki (Dan) Hunt; grandmother, Margaret (Jay) Cook; sister, Krista Mayo; 13 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

I was not close with Kyna, even back in high school, but I do know that she was a great person.  Always smiling, always having fun, and very smart and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

If you knew Kyna and would like to comment and share your memories, please feel free.  If you would like to have photos added to this post, please contact me on Facebook.
